Bay Colony welcomes applications for the position of Music Director/Conductor.

Bay Colony Brass is a Massachusetts registered nonprofit 501c3 organization. It is an amateur group whose mission is to present concerts of music written for mostly large brass ensemble (10-20 players), as well as a few works for smaller groups and soloists.  We seek qualified players of all ages. Repertoire is almost all classical music, consisting of works written or transcribed for brass ensemble. We also seek new compositions. We play about eight concerts a year, including two Christmas concerts, though the number of concerts can vary from year to year.  Members and the music director are encouraged to compose or arrange for the group if they wish. Rehearsals are presently held Tuesday evenings at St. Malachy Parish in Burlington, MA. The group's season ranges from September through May.

Bay Colony Brass is administered collectively by a Music Director, Operations and Personnel Manager, and a Board presently consisting mostly of players. Board members perform a variety of tasks, such as publicity, fund raising, maintaining the Web site, etc. The Music Director's role is to conduct and lead rehearsals and concerts, help select players, help create a vision for the group, and contribute to decisions regarding concert venues, dates, etc. The MD should also be able to serve as concert emcee, communicating with audiences about the program, donations, and future BCB concerts and activities. At present, the Music Director position is non-paying, though that could change as the group grows.

Requirements for the position of Music Director/Conductor include conducting training and experience, particularly in leading brass or wind ensembles, and ability to clearly articulate musical goals and desires to ensemble in well-organized rehearsals. A candidate who plays a brass instrument and is familiar with brass literature is desired, but we will gladly consider an otherwise qualified candidate who is not a "brass person."
